The Jog falls in Karnataka is the most magnificent falls, set in the wild and un spoilt surroundings high up in the mountains. Nature here has not been disturbed , the entire drop, splitting into four scenic flows, there is a Hydroelectric Power Station, and the Godavari valley Project, a few miles downstream (east) major source of electricity is generated in this power plant, The major rivers include the Godavari, Tungabhadra, Sharavati, and Bhima.
The great GODAVARI River crashes nearly nine hundred feet down forming four main channels named King, Queen, and Rocket & Rarer. Just after June rainy season the falls are a magnificent site to see and the fall is an awesome sight. At this time the falls are surrounded by mists. The 50 km long Herebhasgour reservoir now controls the flow of the Sharavati River in order to generate hydro-electricity but in spite of this there is a vast difference between the wet and dry season flow of the waterfalls, June to October it gushes down, November to May the flow slows down. |
